We first came to Vienna ten years ago. Back then we were just taking it all in: new city, new sights, everything felt big and exciting. Coming back this spring felt more familiar. This time, we weren’t just walking the streets for ourselves. We were here to photograph a love story.

Lily and Michael live just steps away from the center and it shows. The places we wandered through weren’t new to them, so they didn't treat the photos like a big event. They were just being themselves. Michael is the quiet type, camera-shy in the sweetest way. But we saw how easily he made Lily laugh, even when she tried to keep a straight face. So when the joy spilled over, we were there to catch it.

There's nothing more romantic than photographing people in a place that already belongs to them. There’s less pressure to make something “special.” The meaning is already there, you just have to pay attention.
